Between speech and silence lies a liminal space in which resides the grave of the mind, and in it the graves of things.
I speak with you so that you may see, not so that you may converse. If I converse with you, you see; if you see, then there is no need for speech.
My dwelling is in wisdom, and wisdom has no door nor wall. Yet my dwelling has doors without a ceiling to shade it, nor a floor to contain it.
Everything has a secret: if you grasp it, you carry it without it carrying you; if you expand it, it cannot contain you.
The secret in action is the attainment of the Hereafter. Through it, the workers respond to action, and in their response they differ and diverge from it. Knowledge is diverse, and whoever responds to it differs according to their nature.
If you enter into the sciences, enter them as a passerby: they are merely paths along your way; do not dwell there. Otherwise, you will encounter those who have built houses in it and will be deceived by the stations they have established.
There is no door in front of you that you must approach, nor behind you that you must look back to.
Say, so that I may hear.
The letters came to you and said: “Speak to humankind.” The letters came and said: “Speak to the jinn.” The letters came and said: “Speak to the angels.” The letters came and said: “Speak to God.” Say to the letters: “You are only for God.”
The hearts of humans are doors to all letters.
There is a secret, and I am your guide to it—
to whom you converse with and who listens from you.
He called out: “O contradiction, O argument, O ‘Lam’! O ‘How’? O proof! O torrent!”
And everything came to him except wisdom.
I have placed meanings in your mind and letters on your tongue. Letters are My Names, and meanings are My acts. I have allowed you to manifest action through My Names. If you combine two letters rightly, they bear witness to that; if you combine them wrongly, they bear witness against you.
Not every successful person is wise.
You have not harbored it in your heart.
Every name of My Names is a council. Stand in the council of the Originator and Restorer.
Knowledge is narrow: knowledge is narrow, understanding is narrow, literature is narrow, the universe is narrow. In vision there is a narrowness you recognize but cannot cross.
The doors to Me are words. Each door has a thousand words. Each word has a station within it. Each door thus contains a thousand stations. The doors are between you and Me. The doors belong to you towards Me. I have no door towards you, nor is there a door between you and Me. You are Mine, and the doors are Mine. You and the doors are in My presence. I place you within them as I will.
The word “door” is a word named “word.” Two words together are named “word,” and words together are named “word.”
You will not see Me until I act, and when I act, you will see Me.
All knowledge is a path to action.
Ignorance is the pillar of reassurance.
Conversation is a tongue among the tongues of knowledge.
The letter is suspended in its form.
The letter Kaf is not a metaphor; it is a reality you cannot know except through comparison.
The day of death is a day of marriage, and the day of seclusion is a day of companionship.
I have enticed you to Me without placing you in confidence of your lifetime.
I observe you in your grave, and you do not possess what you desired, nor does it desire you.
If you see the fire, fall into it and do not flee; if you fall into it, you are extinguished; if you flee, it pursues and burns you.
I ignite the fire with the second hand.
I have no door nor path.
If you are as I wish in all matters, weep for yourself and call upon Me; I seek refuge for you from the evil of companions.
Sleep so that you may see Me, for you see Me.
Knowledge is a letter that can only be interpreted by action, and action is a letter that can only be interpreted by sincerity, and sincerity a letter only interpreted by patience, and patience only by surrender.
When doubt in a letter arises, say: “Who brought you?”
The essence is in the letter.
The phrase is a letter, and a letter carries no judgment.
When you divide a letter, you stand in vision.
Learn, strive, and act; strive, strive, strive; when you are finished, cast it into the water.
You will not persist in action until you arrange it and account for what passes; if you do not, you have not acted nor persisted.
The letter will come to you, with what it contains, and everything will appear within it. From it comes My Name and My Names, My secret and My creative secret, from it comes knowledge, in which I entrust My covenants and guidance to you, and from it comes the secret, and in the secret My conversation with you and My faith; they will block you from it, so guard it yourself.
Do not resist them in debate, for you cannot debate the Truth.
The letter is a veil, and the veil is a letter.
Stable knowledge is stable ignorance.
The letter cannot enter ignorance, nor can ignorance seize it.
The letter is a guide of knowledge, and knowledge is the essence of the letter.
Those who hold letters are veiled from revelations, standing in their meanings among the rows.
Perish those who ride recklessly.
In risk there is part of salvation.
Standing is the release of the name from the letter.
If you depart from the letter, you depart from the names.
I am the ultimate, my dear ones; when they see Me, they are reassured by Me.
The wider the vision, the narrower the expression.
Ignorance is a veil over vision, and knowledge is a veil over vision.
Whoever knows the veil is elevated to revelation.
The key matter is to know whether you are private or general.
Whoever acts with the private as private is lost.
If you are wealthy, I am not of you, nor are you of Me.
My vision neither commands nor forbids; My absence commands and forbids.
Do not halt in My vision until you transcend letters and the literal.
If you do not witness what cannot be said, you will be scattered by what can be said.
The phrase is inclination; if you witness what does not change, you will not grow weary.
The letter cannot speak of itself; how then could it speak of Me?
I am the maker of the letter and the reporter through it.
Every writer reads his writing, and every reader assumes his reading.
The universe is a station.
Whispers are in every station, and thoughts in every universe.
Whispers float over everything except knowledge.
Knowledge without ignorance does not appear; ignorance without knowledge does not appear.
Testimony is to know, to see, and yet not to know.
Everything is unfit for my gaze.
I give you no more than this phrase.
Sit in the eye of a needle and do not leave; if the thread enters the needle, do not hold it; if it exits, do not extend it; rejoice, for I love only the joyful.
The servants are in Paradise, and the free in Hell.
These are the homelands of the common people.
The veil of knowledge: its outward is the knowledge of letters, and its inward is the wisdom of letters.
Those who exit themselves are the ones outside the letter.
The letter flows according to intent: Jīm for Paradise, Jīm for Hell.
I asked one from Hell: “Who are its people?” He said: “The outward letter people.” I said: “And Paradise?” He said: “The inward letter people.”
The stronger in ignorance is stronger in knowledge.
If you do not know who you are, you gain no knowledge nor earn action.
I am nearer than the letter when it speaks, and farther than the letter when it is silent.
The letter is my treasury; whoever enters it carries my trust.
The letter is language, conjugation, distinction, composition, connection, severance, ambiguity, dictionary, forms, and structures.
Whoever manifests the letter in language is the one who shapes it; he who shapes it differentiates it; he who differentiates it composes it; he who composes it continues in it; he who continues divides it; he who divides obscures it; he who obscures it Arabizes it; he who Arabizes it shapes it; he who shapes it prepares it. That meaning is one meaning, one light, the One is the One, the One is the Unique One.
I symbolized the symbols, and they ended in Me; the eloquent spoke, and they ended in Me.
The seer is ruined by knowledge, as vinegar ruins honey.
I am the Manifest; do not let the veils conceal Me. I am the Hidden; do not let the manifest show Me.
The first corruption is knowing the Name.
All letters are diseased except the Alif. Do you not see each letter slanted? Do you not see the Alif upright, not slanted? Disease is inclination, and inclination is sickness, so do not incline.
The letter is fiery, destined, inevitable by My decree; the letter is the treasury of My secret.
Know the Names while in your humanity; know the letters while in your humanity; folly consumes the mind.
Let him who knows My Names beware of his folly; let him beware of his folly again.
Your station is with Me beyond the letter, and beyond the keys of letters. If I send you to the letters, take a letter from a letter as we take fire from fire: I tell you, take an Alif from a Ba, take a Ba from a Ba, take an Alif from an Alif.
