عدم الطلب

 

My master Ibn ‘Ata Allah al-Sakandari (may Allah be pleased with him) says:

“Do not ask Him [Allah] to remove you from a condition just so that He may employ you in something else; for if He willed you, He would employ you without needing to remove you from it.”

In this wisdom lies a form of trust in Allah (tawakkul), which is the state of not asking. For example, if you are a doctor, be a doctor as you are. Do not be discontent with the position in which Allah has placed you, thinking: “I want to devote myself fully to remembrance of Allah, memorization of the Qur’an, or other acts of worship.”

If Allah did not place you in that situation but instead placed you in a position where your work benefits people, alleviates the suffering of the sick, or serves society, then understand and fulfill your role with love and excellence. In doing so, you may find that you preserve the Qur’an and achieve the spiritual goals you desire.

Do not be displeased with your state; fulfill the responsibilities of the role Allah has given you. A judge must study the case thoroughly, a doctor must follow up carefully, an engineer must be honest in his work, and a mufti must study to know Allah’s law, observe reality, and deliberate before issuing a ruling.

Everyone must serve sincerely in the position in which Allah has placed them. A consultant is entrusted; betrayal is detestable. Neglecting one’s profession is a form of treachery and a breach of trust.

“Do not ask Him to remove you from a state for the sake of another” — many men wish they were women, and many women wish they were men. The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Allah has cursed men who imitate women and women who imitate men.”

And Allah, the Exalted, says:

“Do not wish for that by which Allah has favored some of you over others. For men there is a share of what they earn, and for women there is a share of what they earn. And ask Allah of His bounty.”
(Qur’an 4:32)

Say, “O Lord, grant me success in what You have placed me in.” Life is not about conflict or struggle; it is about completeness, aligning with Allah’s will, and finding joy and satisfaction in what Allah has placed you in. Whether Allah has placed you in poverty or wealth, strength or weakness, health or sickness, ignorance or knowledge, masculinity or femininity, accept it, surrender, and live happily.

The ultimate purpose of this religion is the happiness of both worlds, and true happiness comes from contentment and satisfaction. If Allah wills, He can employ you in your correct desire while keeping you in the state He has placed you in—without having to remove you from it.

يقول سيدي ابن عطاء الله السكندري رضى الله تعالى عنه : (لاَ تَطْلُبْ مِنْهُ أَنْ يُخْرِجَكَ مِنْ حَالَةٍ لِيَسْتَعْمِلَكَ فِيمَا سِوَاهَا ؛ فَلَوْ أَرَادَكَ لاسْتَعْمَلَكَ مِنْ غَيْرِ إِخْرَاجٍ)

وفي هذه الحكمة يرقى بك إلى نوع من أنواع التوكل وهو عدم الطلب، فإذا كنت طبيباً مثلاً فكن طبيباً كما أنت ؛ لا يصبك عدم الرضا عما أقامك الله فيه وتقول أنا أريد أن أتفرغ للذكر وحفظ القرآن وغير ذلك، فإن الله لم يقمك فى هذا، وأرادك على ما أنت عليه من شغل ومنفعة للناس وتخفيف لألم المرض عن الخلق، فلو فهمت ذلك وأديت عملك بحب وإتقان لرأيت نفسك حافظا للقرآن وكل ما تريده سوف يكون، فلا تكن متبرما من حالتك وأقم نفسك حيث ما أقامك الله واستوفِ شروط ما طلبه منك ويجب على القاضى أن يدرس القضية جيداً، ويجب على الطبيب متابعة الحالة جيداً، ويجب على المهندس أن يكون أمينا فى عمله، ويجب على المفتى المذاكرة كى يعرف حكم الله ويَطَّلِع على الواقع ويتأنى فى فهم السؤال.
فيجب على كل واحد أقامه الله فى مكان أن يكون مخلصا لله فى ذلك المكان، فإن المستشار مؤتمن، والخيانة بئست البطانة، والتقصير فى المهنة نوع من أنواع الخيانة وعدم الأمانة.
لاَ تَطْلُبَ مِنْهُ أَنْ يُخْرِجَكَ مِنْ حَالَةٍ لِيَسْتَعْمِلَكَ فِيمَا سِوَاهَا، فكثير من الرجال يريد ويتمنى أن يكون امرأة، وكثير من النساء يتمنين لو أنهن كن رجالا، فيقول فيهن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم (لَعَنَ اللهُ الْمُتَشَبِّهِينَ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ بِالنِّسَاءِ وَالْمُتَشَبِّهَاتِ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ بِالرِّجَالِ) ، ويقول ربنا سبحانه وتعالى {وَلاَ تَتَمَنَّوْاْ مَا فَضَّلَ اللّهُ بِهِ بَعْضَكُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ لِّلرِّجَالِ نَصِيبٌ مِّمَّا اكْتَسَبُواْ وَلِلنِّسَاء نَصِيبٌ مِّمَّا اكْتَسَبْنَ وَاسْأَلُواْ اللّهَ مِن فَضْلِهِ}.
قل يا رب وفقنى لما أقمتنى فيه ، فالأمر ليس مشاحنة وصراع ولكنه تكامل ووقوف عند إرادة الله وتمتع وتلذذ بما أقامك الله فيه، فإن أقامك فى شئ من الفقر أو الغنى أو القوة أو الضعف أو الصحة أو المرض أو الجهل أو العلم أو الذكورة أو الأنوثة فارض وسلم وعش حياة سعيدة لأن هذا الدين غايته سعادة الدارين، ولا تكون السعادة إلا بالرضا والقناعة، فلو أرادك لاستعملك من غير إخراج ولجمع لك بين مُرَادِكَ الصحيح – إن كان صحيحا – وبين ما أنت عليه.
