هل انت صوفي؟

قالت لي : هل انت صوفيShe asked me: "Are you a Sufi?"

I replied:

"It is an honor I do not claim, though I hope for it, and it would honor me to be so. Were it not that God forbade His servants from praising themselves—He said: 'Do not extol yourselves'—I would have said that I am a Sufi. Oh, that I were among them, so I might attain a great success.

These people are such that their companions are not burdened by them; they are people of the rank of ihsān (perfection of faith), and they are people of knowledge in every age. Truly, all Muslims are Sufis, though they do not realize it, because Sufism is the conduct of the heart toward the Lord. Yet, some are few and stingy in this regard.

I wonder who could grant me people like them… a people who uphold the religion by their example."

فأجبتها قائلا :

شرف لا ادّعيه ، وإن كنت أرتجيه ، ويشرفني ان اكون كذلك ، ولولا ان الله نهى عباده عن تزكية انفسهم فقال فلا تزكوا انفسكم لقلت اني صوفي يا ليتني كنت معهم فافوز فوزا عظيما
فهم القوم لا يشقى بهم جليسهم وهم اهل مرتبة الاحسان وهم اهل العلم في كل زمان ، وعلى الحقيقة كل المسلمين صوفية لكنهم لا يشعرون لان التصوف هو سلوك القلب الى الرب وهل رأينا مسلما لا يتعلق قلبه بالله لكن منهم مستكثر ومقل
فليت شعري من لي بمثلهم . . . قوم قِوَامُ الدين بمثلهمُ
