ليلة النصف من شعبان

 

The night of the middle of Sha‘ban is a night in which Allah forgives His servants without any action on their part.

On the authority of Mu‘adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet ﷺ said:
"Allah looks upon all His creation on the night of the middle of Sha‘ban and forgives all His creation except a polytheist or a mushahin (quarreler/hostile one)."
—Reported by Ibn Majah and Al-Tabarani

It is clear that a polytheist is someone from whom Allah has withheld forgiveness.

So, who is the mushahin?

The answer: A mushahin is someone who is openly hostile and antagonistic toward people in their hearts without any reason coming from them. It is not someone who holds a grudge in their heart against someone who wronged or harmed them.

Thus, if two people have a dispute over a right or a legitimate matter, this does not place them under this warning. The fact that a person does not forgive those who wronged them on this night does not prevent Allah from forgiving that person.

This night is also significant because the Qiblah was changed from Jerusalem to Mecca for the sake of the Prophet ﷺ. It is therefore a night of uplifting hearts and transforming conditions. Allah changes our circumstances for the better and mends our hearts with goodness beyond what we hope.

The pious predecessors (salaf) would spend this night in remembrance and worship, as they did with all nights, but they gave this night special attention because Allah has designated it for His gifts and forgiveness without action from the servant. They would thank Allah by increasing their worship, just as the Prophet ﷺ thanked his Lord with increased devotion in gratitude for divine bounty.

It is recommended to recite Surah Yasin three times, along with any remembrance and supplication that is easy on the soul.

ليلة النصف من شعبان ليلة يغفر الله فيها للعباد بغير عمل منهم
فعن معاذ بن جبل رضي الله عنه عن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم قال: “يطلع الله إلى جميع خلقه ليلة النصف من شعبان فيغفر لجميع خلقه إلا لمشرك أو مشاحن” أخرجه ابن ماجه والطبراني
والمشرك معلوم أن الله حجب عنه المغفرة
فمن هو المشاحن ؟
هل هو كل اثنين بينهما مشكلة ؟
والجواب : ان مُشَاحِنْ ؛ هو المعادي الكاره للناس بقلبه من غير سبب صدر منهم اليه
وليس المشاحن من يجد في قلبه عدم مسامحة لمن آذوه وظلموه
فمن تقاطع مع من أخذ حقه لم يدخل في هذا الوعيد
فعدم العفو والمغفرة لمن ظلمنا في هذه الليلة لا يمنع العبد من عفو ومغفرة الله لنا
وهذه ليلة تحولت فيها القبلة من القدس الى مكة لأجل خاطر النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ، فكانت ليلة جبر الخواطر وتحول الأحوال ، بدل الله حالنا الى احسن حال وجبر خواطرنا بخير مما أمّلنا
وكان السلف الصالح يحيون هذه الليلة بالذكر والعبادة ككل لياليهم
لكنهم يخصونها لان الله خصها بعطاء ومغفرة من غير عمل من العبد
فكانوا يشكرون الله على فضله بزيادة العمل مثل ما يشكر النبي صلى الله عليه واله وسلم ربه بزيادة العمل شكرا لزيادة العطاء الالهي
فيستحب قرأءة سورة يس ثلاث مرات ، وما يخف على النفس من ذكر ودعآء
