Bodies are like sealed jars, and to know what is inside a jar, look into it!
The jar of that body may be full of the water of life, yet the vessel itself may be filled with deadly poison.
If you look at the contents, you are a master; if you look at the outer shell, you are lost.

Know, then, that a word (lafẓ) is similar to this body, and its meaning (maʿnā) within is like the soul. The eye of the body always looks at the body, while the eye of the soul looks at the soul, which is full of arts and knowledge!

Therefore, regarding the words of the Masnavi:

• He who clings to the form is misguided.

• He who seeks the inner meaning is rightly guided.

الأجساد كالجرار مغلقة الفوهة، ولكي تعلم ما في الجرة انظر إليها!
فجرة ذلك الجسد مليئة بماء الحياة، وقدر هذا الجسد مليء بالسم القاتل.
فإذا نظرت إلى المحتوى فأنت ملك، وإذا نظرت إلى الغلاف فأنت ضال.
فاعلم أن اللفظ شبيه بهذا الجسد، ومعناه في داخله شبيه بالروح. وعين الجسد دائمًا تكون ناظرة إلى الجسد، وعين الروح ناظرة إلى الروح المليئة بالفنون!

ومن ثم فمن صورة ألفاظ المثنوي، يكون العاكف على الصورة ضالًّا، أما المعنوي فهو مهتدٍ!
