لا تؤخِّرْ طاعات وقت لوقت آخر

 

From the sayings of our master Abū al-Ḥasan al-Shādhilī:

Do not delay acts of obedience from one moment to another, lest you be punished by losing them altogether, or by losing other acts, or by losing their equivalent — as recompense for wasting that time. For every moment has its allotted share.

The right of servitude is demanded of you by the Truth, by virtue of His Lordship. As for ʿumar’s (may Allah be pleased with him) delaying the witr prayer until the end of the night, that was an established habit and a confirmed Sunnah which Allah, Exalted is He, bound him to — along with preserving it.

And how could you attain such a state while inclining toward comfort, leaning into desires, and being heedless of witnessing?

Far from it, far from it, far from it.

لا تؤخِّرْ طاعات وقت لوقت آخر ؛ فتعاقب بفواتها أو بفوات غيرها أو مثلها جزاءً لما ضيعت من ذلك الوقت ، فإنَّ لكلِّ وقتٍ سهمًا
فحقُّ العبودية يقتضيه الحق منك بحكم الربوبية ، وأما تأخيرُ عمر رضى الله عنه الوتر إلى آخر الليل فتلك عادةُ جاريةٌ
وسنَّةُ ثابتة ألزمه الله تعالى إياها مع المحافظة عليها
وأنَّى لك بها مع الميل إلى الراحات ، والرُّكون مع الشهوات ، والغفلةِ عن المشاهدات
