Anting

In the “Swan Lake” Nature Reserve in Victoria, British photographer Tony Austin captured this photo of a crow while it was taking an “ant bath,” scientifically known as “anting.”

In this process, birds deliberately rub ants on their feathers until the ants feel threatened and release formic acid (HCOOH), which is absorbed into the bird’s body. This acts as a natural insecticide, helping the bird get rid of insects and parasites.

But how does this happen?

Ants have an amazing defense mechanism: when threatened, they spray formic acid (HCOOH) from their abdomen or anal glands. This acid has antibacterial properties, preventing bacteria from growing on their bodies and in their nests.

This is not a coincidence at all.

Any mistake in the composition of formic acid would mean losing its antibacterial properties and risking the formation of toxic substances.

Even if we assume, for argument’s sake, that all these miracles happened by chance:

• How can the acid kill bacteria and fungi without harming the ant itself?

• How did birds know about the biological properties of formic acid?

Glory be to Allah, far above what they describe.

في هذه العملية تعمد “الطيور” الي فرك “النمل”في ريشها، حتي يستشعر الخطر، ويقوم بإفراز “حمض الفورميك (H2CO2)، والذي يمتص في جسم الطائر، ويعمل كمبيد حشري طبيعي يساعد الطائر علي التخلص من الحشرات والطفيليات

لكن كيف يحدث ذلك ؟

لدي “النمل” آلية دفاع مذهلة، فعند الشعور بالتهديد، يطلق النمل رذاذ حمض الفورميك(H2CO2) من البطن أو الغدد الشرجية،والمعروف بخصائصه الحيوية المضادة للبكتيريا، مما يمنعها من النمو على أجسامهم وفي أعشاشهم

الأمر ليس مصادفة على الإطلاق

فأي خطأ في تركيب “حمض الفورميك” يعني فقدان خصائصه كمضاد حيوي، وتعرضه لخطر تكوين مواد سامة

وإذا افترضنا جدلاً أن كل هذه المعجزات حدثت بالصدفة

كيف يمكن تفسير أن الحمض يقضي علي البكتريا والفطريات دون التسبب بأي ضرر للنملة نفسها ؟

وكيف استطاعت ‘الطيور” معرفة الخصائص الحيوية لحمض الفورميك ؟
