Living a Lie..

After spending six months aboard the International Space Station, astronaut Ron Garan returned to Earth carrying more than scientific data. He carried a shift in perception; a quiet revolution born from watching our planet drift in the darkness like a fragile lantern. From orbit, the world he knew dissolved into a single glowing sphere without borders, divisions, or the noise of human conflict. What remained was a delicate, interconnected system where every life, every river, and every breath belonged to one shared story.
Garan often describes this transformation as seeing the “big picture,” a realization that humanity is far more united than we allow ourselves to believe. The distance of space stripped away the illusions we cling to on the ground: the idea that nations stand apart, that people are fundamentally different, that our struggles justify our separation. In microgravity, these beliefs felt small, almost unreal.
Returning home, he spoke of a responsibility that comes with this new vision. If we could see Earth as astronauts do; even for a moment; we might treat one another with greater compassion. We might protect our planet with deeper urgency. And we might finally understand that the divisions we defend so fiercely are, in truth, only shadows on a shared world.
