ربَّ

My Lord: to whom should I turn, when You are the One sought?
Toward whom should I direct myself, when You alone truly exist?
Who is it that gives, when You are the Possessor of generosity and bounty?
Whom should I ask, when You are the Lord who is worshipped?

Is there in all existence a lord besides You to be called upon?
Or in the dominion, a god other than You to be hoped for and pursued?
Is there a generous one other than You from whom gifts are sought?
Or a giver besides You from whom contentment is requested?
Is there a forbearing one other than You from whom grace and blessings are attained?
Is there a merciful one besides You in earth or heaven?
Is there a judge other than You to whom complaints are raised?
Is there a compassionate one other than You upon whom the poor servant may rely?
Is there a sovereign besides You to whom hands are lifted in supplication?

There is nothing but Your generosity and bounty for the fulfillment of needs,
nothing but Your grace and favors for the answering of prayers.
O You from whom there is no refuge and no escape except to You,
O You who grant protection, and against whom no protection can be sought.

ربَّ : لمن أقصد وأنت المقصود ، وإلى من أتوجه وأنت الموجود ، ومَن ذا الذي يعطي وأنت صاحب الكرم والجود ، ومن ذا الذي أسأل وأنت الرب المعبود ، وهل في الوجود ربُّ سواك فيُدعى ؟ أم هل في الملك إله غيرك فيُرجى وإليه يُسعى ؟ أم هل كريم غيُرك يطلب منه العطا ؟ أم جواد سواك فيُسأل منه الرضا ؟ أم هل حليم غيُرك فيُنال منه الفضل والنعُمى ؟ أم هل رحيم غيرك في الأرض والسماء ؟ أم هل حاكم سواك فترفع إليه الشكوى ؟ أم هل رؤوف غيرك للعبد الفقير يعتمد عليه ؟ أم هل مليك سواك تبسط الأكف بالدعاء إليه ؟ فليس إلا كَرمُك وجودك لقضاء الحاجات ، وليس إلا فضلك ونعمك لإجابة الدعوات ، يا من لا ملجأ ولا منجى منه إلا إليه ، يا من يُجير ولا يُجار عليه .
