السمع والفهم والاسترجاع

From “Latā’if al-Manan” by Imam al-Tāj Ibn ‘Atā’ Allah al-Sakandarī:

The Imam says:

"What you have heard from me and understood, entrust it to Allah; He will return it to you at the time of need. And what you did not understand, leave it to Allah; He will clarify it for you."

This means that sometimes a person learns from the Sheikh but fears that what they understood might be forgotten. But Imam Abu al-‘Abbas says: whatever you did understand, entrust it to Allah.

It is like a student who studies for an exam and memorizes material, yet before the exam thinks they have forgotten everything. Still, when the exam comes, they answer correctly with what they had learned, even if they didn’t consciously remember it. That is because Allah returns knowledge at the time of need.

Thus, a person who reads, listens, or understands something, then forgets it, should not worry. Allah will restore it when needed.

يقول الإمام
ما سمعتموه مني ففهمتموه ، فاستودعوه الله يَرُدُّه عليكم وقت الحاجة ، وما لم تفهموه فوكلوه إلى الله ؛ يتولَّ الله بيانه

أي أن الإنسان يفهم عن الشيخ أشياء لكنه يخاف أحيانا أنه إذا بعد ما فهمها أنها ستضيع منه وينساها ؛ لكن سيدي أبي العباس يقول أن الذي فهمتموه استودعوه الله

مثل الذي يدخل الإمتحان و يذاكر ويحفظ وقبل الإمتحان يظن أن ذاكرته ليس بها أي معلومة ، مع ذلك يدخل الإمتحان فيجيب بما لم يخطر له على بال قبل الإمتحان ؛ أي أن الله يرد عليه وقت الحاجة

لذلك الإنسان الذي يقرأ ، أو الذي يسمع أو يفهم ، ثم ينسى ما قرأ أو فهم لا يخاف فإن الله يرده عليه وقت الحاجة ، والشيء الذي لم نفهمه من الشيخ لا نخاف فالله عز وجل يستطيع ما لا نستطيعه نحن ؛ فهو يتولى
