Do not say, “I am deeply immersed in desires—completely drowned in them.
Is it really possible for me to refrain?”
I am heedless, and whenever I remember or try to remind myself, I find myself heedless again.
I have despaired of myself.
Beware of despairing of yourself.
In a single moment, you could become among the greatest of the saints—
one single moment, if God wills and opens for you. O God, open for us.
So beware of despair,
because by doing so you would be declaring the Divine Power incapable—God forbid.
God, Glorified and Exalted, is able to move you from the worst state to the best state in a single moment,
in the blink of an eye—or even less.
Therefore, you must never despair of the mercy of God.
