perhaps there is no issue that has captured the attention, emotions, and even the illusions of Muslims more than the dispute between Sunnis and Shiʿa.

This matter, for the most part, involves everyone—both the general public and scholars alike. Social media has contributed significantly to entrenching this division, especially when the ruwaybiḍah (insignificant or unqualified people) put themselves forward to speak about matters they do not understand. Likewise, even the educated have often abandoned a scholarly methodology and instead relied on overflowing emotions that neither nourish nor benefit.

Despite my personal conviction that this disagreement is, in most cases, a juristic (fiqh-based) difference that falls within the accepted rules of scholarly reasoning (ijtihād), Dr. ʿAlī Jumʿah has presented a calm and balanced analysis of the issue, which has provoked the anger of many.
