وَيَجْعَلُ مَن يَشَاء عَقِيمًا

 Imam Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi narrates:

I prayed behind my master, Sheikh al-Ustadh Abu al-Hasan, for the Fajr prayer. He recited Surah Ash-Shura, and when he reached the verse:

"He gives to whom He wills females, and gives to whom He wills males; or He makes them barren. Indeed, He is Knowing and Capable"

—I felt something deeply in my heart through the meaning of the words.

When the Sheikh finished the prayer, he said to me:

"O Abu al-Abbas,

‘He gives to whom He wills females’ refers to acts of worship and interactions.

And ‘He gives to whom He wills males’ refers to states, knowledge, and spiritual stations.

‘Or He marries them males and females’—He combines these gifts in whomever He wills among His servants.

‘And He makes whomever He wills barren’—without knowledge or action."

I was deeply amazed by this explanation.

يحكي الإمام أبي العباس المرسي فيقول

صليت خلف سيدي الشيخ الأستاذ أبي الحسن صلاة الصبح، فقرأ سورة الشورى فلما بلغ إلى قوله

يَهَبُ لِمَنْ يَشَاء إِنَاثًا وَيَهَبُ لِمَن يَشَاء الذُّكُورَ *أَويُزَوِّجُهُمْ ذُكْرَانًا وَإِنَاثًا وَيَجْعَلُ مَن يَشَاء عَقِيمًا إِنَّهُ عَلِيمٌ قَدِيرٌ
فوقع في نفسي شيء من ذلك من طريق المعنى

فلما سلم الشيخ من الصلاة ، قال لي: يا أبا العباس

يهب لمن يشاء إناثا: أي العبادات والمعاملات

وَيَهَبُ لِمَن يَشَاء الذُّكُورَ: الأحوال والعلوم والمقامات

أَو يُزَوِّجُهُمْ ذُكْرَانًا وَإِنَاثًا: يجمع ذلك فيمن يشاء من عباده

وَيَجْعَلُ مَن يَشَاء عَقِيمًا: بلا علم ولا عمل

فتعجبت من ذلك
