Eid is the return of the Beloved to the beloved.
Eid is when every stranger and every traveler returns to the one they love.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ says about the Lord of Might:
“Allah is more joyful at the repentance of His servant when he turns to Him than one of you who was on his mount in a desolate land, carrying his food and drink. It slipped away from him, and he lost hope of finding it. He went to a tree and lay down in its shade, having given up hope of his mount. Then, while he was like that, he suddenly found it standing beside him. He took hold of its reins and, out of overwhelming joy, said: ‘O Allah, You are my servant and I am Your Lord’—he misspoke out of extreme joy.”
How great is our joy when something we lost or that was stolen from us returns to us—an immense happiness. Allah’s joy is even greater than that.
He tells us this to show that Allah loves us, and that Allah seeks us. It is as though Allah’s Eid is in our returning to Him… in coming to know Him.
