ليتَ اللّٰه يختارني

“If only God would choose me,

then discipline me, forgive my sin,

open my heart, and elevate my rank.

Then teach me, let me be heard, grant me understanding, and make me steadfast.

Then prepare me to meet Him;

and love to meet me,

and grant me a good ending.

For everything here is exhausting,

and everyone here is exhausted.”

ليتَ اللّٰه يختارني

فيؤدِّبُني ، وَيغفرُ ذَنبي ، ثُمَّ يَشرحُ صَدري ، وَيُعظّمُ قَدري

ثُمَّ يُعلّمُني ، وَ يُسمِّعُني ، وَيُفقِّهُني ، وَيُثبِّتُني

ثُمَّ يُهيِّئُني للقاءهِ ؛ ويُحبُّ لقائي فيرزُقني حُسن الخاتمة

فكُل مَا هُنا مُتعِب

وكُل مَن هُنا مُتعَب

لَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ

“He said: ‘By Your might, I will surely mislead them all.’”

Iblis (Satan) swore by the divine Might (al-‘Izzah) and swore by nothing else, thereby demonstrating his knowledge and cunning.

This divine Might reflects God’s absolute self-sufficiency, His independence from creation. Therefore, whoever wills may believe, and whoever wills may disbelieve. They cannot harm God in any way. He is exalted above His creation, self-sufficient, free from all needs.

God says in a sacred hadith qudsi:

“These are in Hell and I do not care; these are in Paradise and I do not care.”

This is the essence of divine Might. And it is the single “gap” through which Iblis can enter: through the freedom God has given human beings to choose, he can whisper, tempt, and mislead. God will not compel anyone to believe or prevent anyone from choosing disbelief. Hence Iblis swore: “By Your Might, I will surely mislead them all.”

“I will sit in wait for them on Your straight path, then I will come at them from before them, from behind them, from their right, and from their left.”

• Here, Iblis mentions the four directions but not above or below:

  • Above belongs to God’s Lordship (Rububiyyah).

  • Below belongs to the humility of servitude (‘Ubūdiyyah).

  • Whoever remains in the proper place of servitude, beneath the Almighty, is inaccessible to Satan.

• Iblis points out that his preferred place to mislead people is the straight path, the path of goodness, prayer, and worship.

  • The neglectful, the drunkard, and the corrupt do not need Iblis—they are already lost by their own choices.

  • Satan is a cunning thief; he does not waste his time on already ruined souls but targets those on the path of righteousness.

“قَالَ فَبِعِزَّتِكَ لَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ”
أقسم إبليس بالعزة الإلهية و لم يقسم بغيرها ، فأثبت بذلك علمه و ذكاءه
لأن هذه العزة الإلهية هي التي اقتضت استغناء الله عن خلقه
فمن شاء فليؤمن و من شاء فليكفر
و لن يضروا الله شيئاً
فهو العزيز عن خلقه ، الغني عن العالمين
و يقول الله في حديثه القدسى
هؤلاء في النار و لا أبالي ، و هؤلاء في الجنة ولا أبالي
و هذا مقتضى العزة الإلهية
وهي الثغرة الوحيدة التي يدخل منها إبليس
فهو بها يستطيع أن يضل و يوسوس
لأن الله لن يقهر أحداً اختار الكفر على الإيمان
و لهذا قال “فبعزتك ” لأغوينهم أجمعين
” لَأَقْعُدَنَّ لَهُمْ صِرَاطَكَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ ، ثُمَّ لَآتِيَنَّهُم مِّن بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ وَعَنْ أَيْمَانِهِمْ وَعَن شَمَائِلِهِمْ “
ذكر الجهات الأربع ، و لم يذكر من فوقهم و لا من تحتهم
لأن “فوق ” الربوبية ، و ” تحت ” تواضع العبودية
و من لزم مكانه الأدنى من ربه الأعلى لن يستطيع الشيطان أن يدخل عليه
ثم ذكر إبليس أن مقعده المفضل للإغواء سوف يكون الصراط المستقيم
على طريق الخير و على سجادة الصلاة
لأن تارك الصلاة و السكير و العربيد ليس في حاجة إلى إبليس ليضله
فقد تكفلت نفسه بإضلاله
إنه إنسان خرب
و إبليس لص ذكي ، لا يحب أن يضيع وقته بأن يحوم حول البيوت الخربة
